Beware the Ides of March!

Although I am not quite certain of the origin of this statement, I do know that Julius Caesar was murdered by his “friends” on March 15-or as it was known, The Ides of March. As a history enthusiast, I always remember this in March, but I have often wondered just what led friends to become enemies? Then I wondered, what makes a good friend?

Do you agree that friends are important? It seemed that making friends in childhood was almost effortless. It always seemed possible to find someone with whom I had something in common. I was even fortunate enough to make friends in childhood that have lasted long into adulthood.

Now, as an adult, I find it more challenging to meet new people and make friends. The pandemic and technology did not help.

So-how does an adult make friends?

Finding someone with similar interests may not be the challenge you think it is. What are you interested in? Are there activities you enjoy? Books you like to read? Is there someone at home or at work that you would like to know better? If you are older and looking for new social contacts, try a Seniors Activity Centre. Oshawa has a great network of them, as does Toronto and most cities and towns.

Regardless of what you do, get out there, enjoy yourself and enjoy others. Spring is almost here, and with it come all sorts of possibilities and opportunties.

Remember, that if you need to reach out for counselling, John and I are here, and very happy to connect and work with you.

Happy Spring, and Happy March!
